Invensys过程系统测量与仪表(M&I)集团2006年战略

By Paula Hollywood, ARC Advisory Group

The M&I Group of Process Systems (IPS) recently briefed ARC regarding its strategic plans for 2006. As the saying goes, that which does not kill us makes us stronger, and so it is for M&I. The group, which consists of the Foxboro and Eckardt brands, has survived the difficulties that Invensys, as a whole, has recently endured and emerged stronger. During those trying times many perceived M&I as the poor stepchild, however make no mistake that M&I is an important member of the IPS family.

Functional excellence is IPS strategy for leveraging its strengths in terms of product development, marketing, sales, and manufacturing. A System Architecture Council is driving shared platform solutions and research efforts to ensure that development is a collaborative effort throughout IPS, and IPS is undertaking a more comprehensive marketing effort to leverage the strengths of the entire organization.

M&I, for example, is developing a series of case studies and application notes that highlight its industry and application expertise as well as leverage the Foxboro brand equity. In its sales efforts, IPS is working to leverage the best practices of the individual groups. M&I is making great strides in overcoming its past product quality problems. For example, it now offers a five year warranty on its family of pressure transmitters as standard and an unprecedented 17-year extended warranty is available as an option on its premium performance and multirange transmitters.

Foxboro has recently announced several enhancements to its line of instrumentation including expanded operating ranges for pressure transmitter and SIL 2 conformity for temperature and pressure transmitters. New software tools include a Multivariable Series Configuration Wizard for configuring transmitter off-line and FlowExpertPRo on-line flow sizing program.

Asset Performance Management (APM) is key initiative for IPS. The various groups that constitute IPS can all make a contribution to this initiative; however it will require a great deal of collaboration to be successful. For the M&I group this means leveraging digital fieldbus technology for device configuration, and the extraction of valuable diagnostic and performance information from instruments and valves.

Going forward, M&I intends to capitalize on new trends including Field Device Tool (FDT) and wireless. As a leader in emerging FDT technology, Invensys has taken it beyond a basic configuration tool to offer life cycle and performance management tools. Invensys has mapped out a comprehensive wireless strategy that will leverage its expertise in field instrumentation and condition monitoring with new products will support the IPS asset performance management strategy.
