东芝(Toshiba)公司收购西屋(Westinghouse)公司
Toshiba, the world's ninth largest manufacturer of electric and electronic equipment, won a tough battle to purchase Westinghouse from the British government. It submitted the highest bid of $5 billion. General Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries were also bidders for Westinghouse.
Westinghouse, a nuclear plant builder based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is part of state-owned British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL). The announcement comes after multiple rounds of bidding that began in the autumn, and BNFL expects the sales contract to be signed in the near future.
Toshiba receives more than a quarter of its sales from nuclear power equipment. With its purchase of Westinghouse, the company hopes to cash in on China's strong demand for nuclear power. China could spend more than $54 billion on new reactors over the next decade.
Harry Forbes, ARC Advisory Group, commented, "Westinghouse designs pressurized water reactors (PWRs) while Toshiba's nuclear plants are boiling water reactors (BWRs). The addition of PWR capability will improve Toshiba's ability to compete for nuclear plants in China, which has a large and expanding nuclear construction program."
